Pedestrian killed crossing Braddock Road in Alexandria Friday

WASHINGTON – A man was killed Friday morning while crossing Braddock Road in Alexandria, shutting down the road for several hours.

He was headed westbound, crossing the street where there was not a crosswalk when a car struck him around 7 a.m., say Alexandria police.

The car then crashed into a tree.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.

Braddock Road remained closed between Beauregard Street and Hampton Drive at 10 a.m. and authorities did not expect it to reopen for several hours.
