MedStar Health has completed its acquisition of Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, adding its 10th hospital and important territory in the emerging fight for control of Maryland’s health care market.

On July 30, Southern Maryland announced that Columbia, Md.-based MedStar had emerged from a field of 15 interested buyers to strike a deal with the Chiaramonte family, which owned and controlled the hospital since Dr. Francis Chiaramonte founded it in 1977. Terms were not disclosed.
