FTC wants dealers to provide more details on used cars

WASHINGTON – Dealers may soon have to provide used car buyers with more information.

Currently, used car dealers need to include “buyers guide” stickers in the windows. Now, the Federal Trade Commission wants more information displayed on them.

Some of that information includes warranty details and what airbags come with the car. Dealers also would have to provide information on what catalytic converters (emissions equipment) came with the car, since they could have been illegally removed and sold on the black market.

Until then, buyers should check on these items themselves before they purchase vehicles.

Comments on the proposed changes are being taken until Feb. 11, 2013 on the FTC website.
