WASHINGTON – What’s the hottest toy for the holidays this year? Well, there doesn’t seem to be one.

A recent article from Fortune says retailers haven’t had a “must have” toy on their shelves since the Furby hit stores in 1998, which raked in more than 40 million sales during its first three years.

Instead, toymakers are playing it safe and turning out revamped versions of the classics, such as Hasbro’s Easy Bake Oven, My Little Pony and Mr. Potato Head.

The lack of new toys on the market shows. The article reports that toy sales is expected to have its worse year in more than 30 years.

This year, the closest thing to a “must have” is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Playmates Inc. and Doc McStuffins.
