WASHINGTON – Georgetown snapped a 28-game losing streak against Maryland and it’s earned the team its first ever appearance in the NCAA championship soccer match.

The Hoyas men’s soccer team beat the Terps 5-4 in penalty kicks during the Final Four match in Alabama Friday.

Georgetown held a 4-2 advantage with about 30 minutes to play in regulation. But the Terps found a way to rally and send the game into overtime.

Overtime couldn’t decide it so the game moved on to penalty kicks. Georgetown’s keeper Tomas Gomez making two saves to lead the Hoyas over the Terps 4-3.

With the win, the Hoyas advance to the national College Cup game, which will be played Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Hoyas will face either Indiana or Creighton.
