WASHINGTON – Investigators reportedly have a new clue in the hunt for two killers who escaped from a New York state prison 16 days ago.

DNA from David Sweat and Richard Matt was found in a cabin near Wolf Pond, in the Saranac Lake region, that had been broken into in the past 24 hours, sources tell CBS News.

CBS also confirms that a second employee at the Clinton Correction Institution has been suspended from work amid allegations he was involved in the escape plot. Gene Palmer has been questioned over what he knew about the escape, CBS News says.

Palmer’s lawyer has said that the worker knew nothing about the escape plot, telling a CBS affiliate that Sweat and Matt “are master manipulators. They are obviously in prison for life so they have nothing but time to take advantage of innocent people.”

Prison employee Joyce Mitchell has been charged with helping Sweat and Matt escape.
