‘Free range’ parents cleared in child neglect case

WASHINGTON — Maryland’s so-called “free range” parents have been cleared in the second of two child neglect cases, concluding a saga that sparked widespread debate about the amount of liberty guardians should allot their kids.

The issue began when the parents — Danielle and Alexander Meitiv — allowed their two young children to walk home from the park.

According to the Washington Post, Danielle Meitiv said that she and her husband got the decision June 13 in a letter from Child Protective Services.

The couple’s children — ages 6 and 10 — were found by police during a trek home from a park in Silver Spring.
