WASHINGTON – An intoxicated driver caused $10,000 worth of damage after crashing into the Fairfax City police headquarters early Thursday morning.

Fairfax police say Anthony John Skrobacz, 49, of Spotsylvania, drove a a Mercury Marquis through the closed garage door to the police processing area about 2 a.m. and then drove off.

The garage doors sustained considerable damage but no one was injured and no contents inside the building on Old Lee Highway were damaged. Officials estimate the damage will cost $10,000 to repair.

Soon after the hit-and-run at police headquarters, police were called to an accident at University Drive and Willard Way and found the Mercury and Skrobacz stopped on top of a parking lot median, police say.

Skrobacz was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving and hit-and-run, police say.

He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held in lieu of $5,000 bail, police say.
