WASHINGTON – Parents and students at a Capitol Hill elementary school learned a costly lesson over Thanksgiving weekend when thieves broke into the school for a second time and stole several iMac computers.

A total of a dozen computers have now been taken from Brent Elementary School since mid-October. The school is located just a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol.

In the latest break-in, thieves broke into the school and smashed through a library door.

“We are again reviewing our security system and protocols and plan to make additional upgrades to thwart future thefts,” Peter Young, the school principal, said in a note to parents.

In a separate incident, police are asking for the public’s help in identifying five people who stole computer equipment from another elementary school.

D.C. police say the break-in happened last Friday at the Brightwood Elementary School in Northwest Washington.

Schools were closed Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday, but police say five people entered the school just after 1 p.m and carried off several pieces of computer equipment.

Police have released a video that shows the five walking down a corridor in the school, all of them wearing what appeared to be hooded sweatshirts or jackets.
