WASHINGTON – Call it transit art. A YouTube user has created a time-lapse video of D.C. traffic using data from Metro.

Using a data stream posted by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the creator animated the flurry of Metro traffic in the city, reports DCist. The data shows the track of WMATA train lines, bus routes and schedules.

Metro and Circulator buses are represented by white dots. Metrorail trips appear in the color of the line they represent.

The map in the video is blacked out, though the shape of the Potomac River is visible. As the 24-hour time-lapse progresses, heavier traffic outlines the main arteries of the city.

The user, STLTransit, has also made videos of other transit networks from dozens of other cities.
