Gaza Strip violence sparks D.C. protests

WASHINGTON – The recent violence in the Gaza Strip is sparking demonstrations in Washington, D.C.

Activists from both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict gathered outside the White House on Thursday, chanting, singing and, at times, shouting at each other. Supporters of Israel, holding signs and with flags draped over their shoulders, began showing up on Pennsylvania Avenue around 6 p.m.

Ari Hoffman, a student at George Washington University, helped organize the demonstration, which he says was mostly made up of area college students.
