Prince George’s sheriff’s deputy shoots, kills man

WASHINGTON – A Prince George’s sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man while he was trying to serve a court order Wednesday evening.

Sheriff’s officials say a “female” let the deputy into a home at 6312 63rd Ave. in Riverdale about 7:30 p.m. to serve a peace order, which is a type of protective order for unrelated persons.

Once the deputy was inside, a man stepped from the back of the home with a gun. The deputy fired his service weapon and hit the 39-year-old man, who was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead, officials said.

Police did not release the victim’s name.

Sheriff’s officials also have not released the deputy’s name but said he is a veteran with the department.

The officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.
