WASHINGTON — Howard County Police are telling residents to monitor their bank accounts after a credit card scanner was found on a NASA Federal Credit Union ATM Sunday night.

Police were called to the area at about 7 p.m. Sunday when a bank customer noticed something unusual about the card scanner. It appeared to have come loose, and was taped to the rest of the machine.  It was a replica of the machine’s scanner, along with a small camera and memory card, police say.

So far, there have been no reports of information being stolen or used. However, police are encouraging customers to be vigilant in monitoring accounts and statements while they search for the suspect.

Police urge everyone to be alert when withdrawing from ATMs, as scanners have become quite sophisticated.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect pictured is encouraged to call police at 410-313-STOP, and the public should call 911 if an ATM or other card reader appears to be tampered with.
