Va. state police identify teen killed in Fauquier shooting

WASHINGTON – Virginia State Police have identified the teen killed by a police officer in Fauquier County early Friday morning.

Evan Newsom, 17, from Stafford, had attacked a Stafford County deputy with a knife after police came to his home following a single-vehicle crash in Fauquier County.

Newsom was then shot and died at the scene. The deputy was treated for his injuries at the scene.

The state police’s Police Shooting Investigation Team is investigating the shooting at the request of both the Fauquier and Stafford sheriff’s offices.
