Man dies after burning himself at gas station

WASHINGTON — A man has died after he was burned in a gas station fire in Prince George’s County on Sunday.

The fire happened at a Shell Gas station near Kenilworth Avenue and East-West Highway in Riverdale.

A Prince George’s County fire official says the man lit a cigarette while pumping gas, igniting gasoline fumes and himself.

A bystander put out the fire. The man was rushed to a burn center with critical injuries, and later died.

Fire officials said the man’s name is not yet being released, pending notification of family members.
