Rockville double-murder suspect posted condolences on Facebook

WASHINGTON — The man who police say has confessed to killing his Rockville neighbors posted a Facebook message of condolences on the day the bodies were found.

On Mother’s Day, Scott Tomaszewski posted a message expressing sympathy for the children of Richard and Julianne Vilardo, whose bodies had been found in their house on Ridge Drive, FOX5 reports.

Here’s exactly how the message reads:

“my deepest sympathies go out to our neighbors who were found deceased today. i pray that their children are somehow able to make it through this horrible tragedy. they were such nice people. i can’t imagine who would do this. scary to hear about this having possibly happened as we were leaving for our trip,” the message reads (the lack of capitalization is in the original).

Tomaszewski took a trip to Alaska with his parents, with whom he lived. He was arrested, and reportedly confessed, while still in Alaska. He waived extradition and is being held without bond. He’ll probably be returned to Maryland to face charges next week.

Forensics expert Jay Singh tells FOX5 that the posting may have been the result of a desire to distance himself emotionally from what he had done, or it could have been a calculated move to throw investigators off.

“If he knows that people are going to be kind of thinking about him as a potential suspect and such, he wants to try to pre-emptively cover those tracks and perhaps wishful thinking, to be able to think that posting what seems like a sincere message would necessarily throw anybody off,” said Singh.
