Cheetah cubs to meet their Olympian namesakes

WASHINGTON – Two cheetahs at the National Zoo will be meeting their namesake’s Thursday when U.S. track and field Olympians Carmelita Jeter and Justin Gatlin make a special appearance.

Carmelita was named after Jeter when the sprinter won silver in the women’s 100-meter race. Justin got his name when Gatlin won bronze in the men’s 100-meter sprint. Both Olympians are making the trek to D.C. especially for this event.

Festivities kick off at 11:30 a.m. The first 450 guests will receive autographed cheetah cub cards. You can also bring your own for signing.

Check the National Zoo’s website for more information.
