GREENBELT, Md. – Former Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson faces up to 14 years in prison when he’s sentenced in a bribery scandal that sullied the county’s reputation.
Prosecutors want a tough sentence imposed on Johnson when he’s sentenced in federal court Dec. 6, according to a 76-page sentencing memorandum obtained by The Washington Post.
In the pay-to-play extortion scheme, Johnson, who accepted as much as $1 million in bribes and kickbacks, steered government money to friends who were developers. He pleaded guilty in May.
Former Prince George’s County Council member Leslie Johnson, who is married to Jack Johnson, faces up to 18 months for her role. A sentencing memo in her case says she chose to conspire with her husband.
