WASHINGTON – As Santa’s making his list of who’s naughty and nice, Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot is making his own list of the very, very naughty.

Maryland’s top 50 “tax cheats” are called out in a campaign called “Caught in the Web.”

Names and addresses of the top tax deadbeats are posted on the comptroller’s “Caught in the Web” site. The total amount owed: nearly $21 million.

The business owing the most in back taxes is OS Assets, which has a Florida address and a tax liability of $4.8 million.

According to the website, the individuals owing the most in back taxes are Rex A. and Marian Frost of Phoenix, Md., who have a bill of $1.3 million.

Franchot says he only posts the information after all efforts to collect the taxes owed have been exhausted. Since kicking off the campaign back in 2000, the state’s recovered nearly $26 million in back taxes.
