Car Review: Infiniti melds sport and luxury in the 400hp Q60 Red Sport

The luxury coupe market might not be the most popular segment in 2020, but Infiniti has updated the Q60 to help keep up with the times.

The Q60 Red Sport 400 AWD brings performance. With plenty of gusto from the twin-turbo V-6, the power comes on strong when you mash the gas. The handling limits are higher than most people will push this sporty luxury car.

Back roads are where this Q60 really wakes up. A new sport exhaust gives the Infiniti a much better sound and can be added for about $700.

While there’s a big dose of sport in the Q60 Red Sport AWD, there’s also big attention placed on luxury surroundings. It features a two-toned leather lined interior and sporty touches such as real carbon fiber trim.

The infotainment system responds better on the 2020 model. With better graphics, the dual HD screens are better to look at this year. But the dual screens take a bit of time to get used to.

The 2020 Infinity Q60 has an upscale look — it looks fast even when it’s parked. The car is small and sits low to the ground, exactly like a sporty coupe should. The optional 20-inch wheels and red-painted calipers fit the character of a sports coupe. The carbon fiber package adds a tasteful spoiler and other cool-looking carbon fiber trim pieces on the exterior.

Cost: $59,150; as tested, $65,950

Mileage: 19 mpg city; 26 mpg highway. I managed 22.2 in 224 miles of mixed driving.

Options: $310 cargo package; $420 Infiniti radiant illuminated kicks plates; $465 Infiniti radiant welcome lighting; $510 Infiniti interior ambient lighting; $2,280 carbon fiber package; $1,790 20-inch, 5-spoke wheels.

Safety: Forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection; predictive forward collision warning; electronic brake force distribution; blind spot warning; around view monitor with moving object detection; backup collision intervention; active trace control; front and rear sonar system.

Things to know: Infiniti updates its sporty coupe with improved technology. Overall, the top-of-the-line Red Sport 400 is a sporty coupe that’s high on performance and doubles nicely as a luxury coupe.
