In 1975 Deacon Maccubbin started Washington D.C.’s “Gay Pride Day”. Deacon and his husband Jim Bennett’s LGBTQ+ book store, “Lambda Rising” faced broken windows and bomb threats, due to their involvement, in what is now known 45 years later, as Capital Pride.
