Ireland’s Four Fields gets lease extended

WASHINGTON – Ireland’s Four Fields was supposed to close on Nov. 5. But that day has come and gone, and the Cleveland Park institution is still slinging Guinness.

The Cleveland Park Yahoo group reports that the lease for the pub has been extended through April, 2012.

Ireland’s Four Fields (formerly the 4Ps) has been a place to get together with neighborhood friends, celebrate achievements and occasionally mourn those who passed away for more than 35 years.

Back in August, Frank Hughes, the owner, wrote that he plans to reopen at a different location.

A McFadden’s, a chain bar and restaurant that already has a location in Foggy Bottom, is rumored to come into the space.

The Cleveland Park Citizen Association will be holding a special meeting to discuss McFadden’s on Nov. 18 from 5:30 p.m. To 6:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Park Club at 3433 33rd Place NW.

Ireland’s Four Fields was forced to vacate after the landlords requested a rent increase that Hughes could not afford.
