Friday the 13th ice cream delivered to your door

WASHINGTON – A company that’s becoming synonymous with ordering up a ride home is offering summer treats — and only Friday, July 13.

Uber is best known for connecting riders with upscale taxis. But in honor of National Ice Cream Month, it’ll expand its services Friday to include on-demand ice cream in seven cities, including D.C.

You can place an order between noon and 5 p.m. Friday by clicking on the ice cream cone icon on the company’s smartphone app.

For $12, you get five items, including cones or Klondike bars, delivered to you. The app will tell you when to expect the ice cream truck. Uber will bill the credit card on file with the app.

Uber says you can purchase more items once the ice cream truck arrives.

While the promotion is an odd one, it’s not that unusual for the company, which offered on-demand mariachi bands in San Francisco in May.
