D.C. ranks in the list of top cities to live in

WASHINGTON – D.C. is a city of transplants and though many residents may not like the heat, they like living in Washington.

Turns out, they have good taste. The Economist Intelligence Unit has ranked Washington as the 14th best city in the world to live, according to SmartPlanet.

The cities were ranked based on what the EIU calls the “liveability index”, which includes a number of characteristics like sprawl, green space, natural assets, cultural assets, connectivity, isolation and pollution.

The 10 best cities to live in are:

  1. Hong Kong
  2. Amsterdam
  3. Osaka
  4. Paris
  5. Sydney
  6. Stockholm
  7. Berlin
  8. Toronto
  9. Munich
  10. Tokyo

So, the top 10 are not in the United States. But at least D.C. tops the list of domestic cities. Chicago came in 15th, followed by New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
