[related_gallery align=”right”]WASHINGTON — The federal prisoner who escaped from Inova Fairfax Hospital Tuesday broke into a home while he was on the run, according to NBC4.

Wossen Assaye was wearing only a hospital gown when he escaped.

That gown was later discovered inside a house in Annandale, Virginia.

“He may have gotten some of my old clothes,” homeowner Lorraine Giovinazzo told NBC4.

“The hospital gown was left in there and some of my old clothes were gone.”

According to NBC4, Assaye entered the home by jimmying the handles on a set of glass doors.

At one point, Fairfax County police released a description, saying Assaye was wearing a dark colored jacket and blue jeans.

Assaye’s escape sparked a manhunt that lasted nearly nine hours. He was eventually taken into custody in Southeast D.C.

The incident has prompted the U.S. Marshals Service to review its policy of putting private security guards in charge of watching federal prisoners when they are taken to hospitals.
