WASHINGTON – The Orioles have acquired Jim Thome in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies. The O’s give up a pair of minor leaguers in exchange for the 41 year-old slugger.

Thome, the five-time All-Star, is tied with Sammy Sosa for 7th on the all-time home run list with 609. The 22-year veteran is also 25th on the all-time RBI list with 1,689. Thome is expected to serve as designated hitter in Baltimore to help remedy the team’s recent hitting slump.

So far this season, Thome is hitting .242 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 30 games played.

The minor leaguers going to Philadelphia are right-handed pitcher Kyle Simon and catcher Gabriel Lino of the Frederick Keys.
