Music to celebrate Independence Day

WASHINGTON – Every year, the Fourth of July fireworks display brings thousands of visitors to the National Mall, but many of us locals prefer to celebrate away from the huge crowds and hubbub that go along with the festivities.

One good option would be to check out your favorite music venue, but many clubs close for the holiday. Below is a list of notable happenings that could augment your festive mood without upping the claustrophobia factor:

July 3

Don’t want to go out on July 4? Here are some concerts scheduled for July 3 that will get you cheering:

  • Legendary songwriter Chris Isaak takes the stage at the Birchmere in Alexandria. The Birchmere features table seating and a varied dinner menu, so you won’t have to worry about dinner before the show.
  • For music lovers with more adventurous leanings, rock/dance phenomenon Scissor Sisters will be performing at the 9:30 Club. This is a second show that was added due to demand, and tickets are still available.
  • IOTA Club and Caf
