Maryland church files for bankruptcy

WASHINGTON – In Annapolis, he’s known as Sen. C. Anthony Muse.

But at the Ark of Safety Christian Church in Upper Marlboro, he’s known as Bishop Muse. And for the second time in his career as a minister, a church under his guidance has fallen on hard financial times.

The Ark of Safety Christian Church, one of the largest African American churches in the region, owes nearly $2 million to various creditors, including banks, attorneys and public utilities. One of the largest debts is to Muse himself, who mortgaged his home to keep the church afloat.

In a statement issued by Muse, he says just like middle class homeowners, middle class churches are having trouble climbing out of the recession. He says the church will continue to serves the community.
