Harper’s ‘clown question, bro’ takes off (VIDEOS)

WASHINGTON – Bryce Harper does not take kindly to questions about underage drinking, even if the legal age is 19 north of the border.

Now, his response has gained its own online following.

Following his second straight three-hit game in Tuesday’s win against the Toronto Blue Jays, Harper was fielding questions in the locker room when he was asked about celebrating.

Harper did not bother to answer the reporter’s question.

Instead, as seen in the below video clip, Harper responds:

“I’m not answering that. That’s a clown question, bro.”

In Ontario, the drinking age is 19, not 21 as in the United States. However, Harper is a Mormon, a religion that forbids alcohol. A Nationals PR staffer suggested the reporter try a different line of questioning, but Harper was ready.

Sure enough, by Wednesday morning, online retailers were offering T-shirts emblazoned with Harper’s comment, while fans far and wide were posting tweets about the latest baseball catchphrase.

Check out the ensuing online response from one YouTube poster for Barbara Walters:
