Court won’t order Metro to post Christmas ads, for now

WASHINGTON – A federal appeals court has denied the Archdiocese of Washington’s request to force Metro to immediately post Christmas ads on Metrobuses.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia denied the motion for a mandatory injunction Wednesday, but did direct the Archdiocese and Metro to file further briefs over the next two months on the issues.

The church challenged Metro’s ban on religion-related advertising that was implemented in 2015.

Metro argued its ad policies are constitutional since they apply equally to everyone.

A lower court also initially sided with Metro.

WASHINGTON — Metro trains are vibrating some homes in D.C.’s Petworth neighborhood, but Metro believes the shaking isn’t enough to cause structural damage. The preliminary findings, by a consultant hired to investigate claims of trains shaking houses, come from a letter from Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld to D.C. Councilmember Brandon Todd on the issue.
