Jury awards $1.4M in fatal car crash

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Frederick County Circuit Court has awarded $1.4 million in damages to the family of a woman who was killed in a six-vehicle crash in New Market.

The jury on Monday awarded Selly Kai’s son, who was 2 at the time of the crash, $1 million, and Kai’s mother $250,000.

The rest was awarded to the three others who were injured in the crash, The News-Post of Frederick reports (http://bit.ly/10TfScR).

Kai and 46-year-old Anis Mawi, both of Frederick, were among passengers in a car traveling to their jobs at Taylor Farms in Laurel on Nov. 26, 2011.

Police say the car was rear-ended by a van Brett Lee Lease. The car was owned by Natelco Corp., for whom Lease worked.

Mawi was also killed in the crash.
