Dayton cruises past Valparaiso 42-19

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Connor Kacsor ran for 92 yards and two touchdowns and Dayton cruised past Valparaiso 42-19 on Saturday.

Dayton’s defense generated four turnovers, recovering a fumble and intercepting Valpo quarterback Ben Lehman three times.

Both of Kacsor’s short touchdown runs came in the first quarter as Dayton (6-2, 4-1 Pioneer League) built a 14-0 lead. Jacob Newman kicked two field goals for Valparaiso (2-7, 0-5) in the second quarter to trail by eight points at half. Brandon Hall’s 4-yard run at the start of the third brought Valpo within two points, but the conversion pass failed.

It was all Dayton after that.

A botched Valpo punt gave Dayton a short field and Will Bardo found Ross Smith for a 23-yard TD. Valpo’s next four possessions ended in turnovers — three picks and downs — which Dayton turned into 21 more points.

Bardo finished 11 of 18 for 128 and two touchdowns.
