NRC names new inspector for North Anna nuke plant

MINERAL, Va. (AP) — Dominion Virginia Power’s nuclear power plant in Louisa County is getting a new inspector from federal regulators.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says it has assigned Gwynne Skaggs Ryan as the resident inspector at the North Anna facility about 40 miles northwest of Richmond.

At least two inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant to serve as the NRC’s eyes and ears at the facility. Jones joins senior resident inspector Greg Kolcum at the site.

They conduct inspections, monitor major work projects and interact with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at a reactor site for up to seven years.

Ryan joined the NRC in 2011 as a reactor inspector and most recently served as an acting resident inspector at the Palo Verde plant in Arizona.
