Md. man faces gets 20 years in girls’ kidnapping

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — A Prince George’s County man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in the kidnapping of two 6-year-old girls in separate incidents.

Charles Amofa of Hyattsville pleaded guilty in April to kidnapping, sexual offenses and solicitation of a minor. The 27-year-old was sentenced Wednesday in Prince George’s County Circuit Court.

In August 2012, police say Amofa approached a 6-year-old girl who had become separated from her father at a store and lured her outside. They say he then took her to a Hyattsville-area playground and tried to sexually assault her.

Police say Amofa was involved in a similar attack the month before. In that case, a 6-year-old girl was lured from the same store but was able to run away.
