Police: Suspected gang members beat Woodbridge man with baseball bat

WASHINGTON — A Woodbridge man is recovering from a weekend beating by suspected gang members. Prince William County Police say the 27-year-old victim was struck multiple times with a baseball bat in the basement of his home.

Police say the man encountered a group of people — several males and a female — as he was walking to his home in the 13900 block of Matthews Drive in Woodbridge, Virginia, Saturday around 7:30 p.m.

“During that encounter one of the suspects grabbed him and forced him inside of his home … and once inside the basement, that’s where the suspects physically assaulted him and even struck him multiple times with a baseball bat. During that assault, the suspects yelled some gang affiliations and then took his cellphone and some money before fleeing the home,” said Sgt. Jonathan Perok, public information officer for Prince William County police.

The victim sustained nonlife threatening injuries.

Perok said the attack was not random and the police department’s gang unit has joined the investigation.
