CBC secures Canadian TV rights to 2018/2020 Games

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has secured the country’s broadcast rights to the 2018 and 2020 Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee says it awarded the rights across all platforms to Canada’s national public radio and television broadcaster for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

The CBC held the rights to this year’s Winter Games in Sochi and will show the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

CBC president Hubert Lacroix says the corporation will partner with Bell Media and Rogers Media to carry the 2018 and 2020 Games.

IOC President Thomas Bach says the CBC has “demonstrated their support for the Olympic values over many years.”
