WASHINGTON — A patient admitted to a University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore tested negative for Ebola, according to the state health department,

“The Ebola test performed last night was negative. The patient continues to receive appropriate treatment,” according to a statement released Tuesday morning by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

WJZ had reported the hospital sent a letter to employees, saying it has accepted a potential Ebola patient for further assessment and was keeping that person in isolation.

“These actions are preventive in nature and intended to safeguard public for risk,” said Dr. Jacquelyn Duval Harvey, with the Baltimore City Health Department.

The University of Maryland Medical Center is one of the three hospitals in the area that has been designated as “second options” for patients who can’t make it to a federal facility, WJZ says.
