School board reconsidering Andre Reed honor

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Going out of bounds on Facebook could block Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Reed from getting his name on his old high school field in Pennsylvania.

The Allentown school board on Thursday delayed a vote on whether to name the field at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Reed’s honor. They’re concerned about a profanity-laced message he was said to have sent to an alum who criticized the plan.

The delay puts a Nov. 1 naming ceremony at Dieruff High School in jeopardy.

The longtime Buffalo Bills receiver had planned to visit schools, tailgate with fans and celebrate the renaming of an Allentown park and part of a street in his name.

The 50-year-old Reed declined to comment.

Reed’s college, Kutztown University, recently named its stadium after him.
