Man charged with assault in Seattle groping case

SEATTLE (AP) — A man accused of groping a woman — who took his picture and publicized it on social media — has been charged with assault with sexual motivation.

The city attorney’s office said Thursday that 36-year-old Daryl R. Sharma of Kirkland was charged with a gross misdemeanor in the Oct. 12 incident in downtown Seattle.

The city is asking that bail be set at $50,000 at his arraignment Friday in a King County Jail courtroom.

Sharma has already been arrested for violating terms of his release as a sex offender. He has a 2011 conviction for felony assault with sexual motivation.

The groping incident might have gone unreported, but the woman, 28-year-old Julia Marquand, took his picture. She publicized it on social media because she felt a police officer didn’t take her complaint seriously.
