Man fatally shot outside New Carrollton apartments

NEW CARROLLTON, Md. — Investigators are trying to determine who shot and killed a young man Monday night, outside a group of apartment buildings in New Carrollton, Maryland.

Calls to 911 at approximately 7:30 p.m. brought officers to the 5300 block of 85th Avenue, which is located midway between Annapolis Road and the New Carrollton Metro.

“When they arrived they found a male, lying on the sidewalk, with a gunshot wound to the upper body,” said New Carrollton Police Chief David Rice.

“The officer performed life-saving measures until EMS personnel arrived,” said Rice. “They took over, and got him to the hospital, but unfortunately he passed away.”

Prince George’s County police identified the man who was shot as Desmond Burns, 24. He lived on 85th Avenue.

Prince George’s County police are investigating his death as a homicide.
