Differing views at Virginia congressional forum

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Candidates for the Virginia 7th Congressional District are presenting differing views on the Affordable Care Act, federal spending and immigration.

Republican Dave Brat, Democrat Jack Trammell and Libertarian James Carr attended a forum held by the Goochland County Chamber of Commerce Thursday at Benedictine College Preparatory in Richmond.

The candidates were allowed to present their positions on various issues but not to debate each other.

Brat became an overnight political sensation with his upset victory against former U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the June GOP primary. He and Trammell are set to debate each other later this month at Randolph-Macon College, where they both teach. Carr is not invited to next week’s debate.
