Cartoonist live-draws and Tweets NYC Marathon

WASHINGTON – Most people woke up Sunday morning and enjoyed a leisurely brunch, perhaps while reading the New York Times.

Christoph Niemann, a cartoonist for the New York Times, not only woke up early Sunday morning to run the New York Marathon, but he live-drew and Tweeted his entire marathon run.

From the moment he woke up at 4:48 a.m. to his final step over the finish line, Niemann sketched and colored his journey for his (now) 12,629 Twitter followers under the handle @abstractsunday.

At one point, Niemann was forced to create a new Twitter handle — @abstractsunday1 — after he reached his daily Tweeting limit, which happens to be 1,000 tweets in a 24-hour period.

His tweets range from cartoons of him going through security with his notepad and markers to his search for a new lid to his pink marker.

Buzzfeed has posted all of Niemann’s tweets and related drawings at this link.
