Saborio, Beckerman lead Salt Lake past Chivas 2-0

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Alvaro Saborio and Kyle Beckerman scored to give Real Salt Lake a 2-0 victory over Chivas USA on Wednesday night in its last game of the regular season.

Salt Lake (15-8-11) moved into third place in the Western Conference — two points ahead of FC Dallas, which hosts Portland on Saturday.

Saborio scored on a penalty kick in the 36th minute after being pushed down during a free kick. In the second half, Beckerman took a pass from Joao Plata and slid a goal through the legs of goalkeeper Dan Kennedy in the 74th.

Salt Lake held an opponent scoreless for a third straight match and scored against Chivas for the first time this season after two 1-0 losses.

Chivas (8-19-6) is tied for last place with San Jose and will host the Earthquakes on Sunday.
