Whatley, Middle Tennessee beat UAB 34-22

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Reggie Whatley ran for 100 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Middle Tennessee beat UAB 34-22 on Saturday.

Middle Tennessee (5-3, 4-1 Conference USA) entered the fourth quarter trailing 22-21 but Whatley’s 67-yard touchdown gave the Blue Raiders the lead for good.

Austin Grammer, who came into the game completing 72.7 percent of his passes in conference play, completed just 6 of 19 passes, but threw for a pair of touchdowns, the last of which put the game out of reach with 2:08 to play.

T.T. Barber and Kevin Byard each had an interception on the Blazers’ next two possessions, the latter setting up Grammer’s pass to Marcus Henry for the 30-yard touchdown to seal it.

Jordan Howard ran for 121 yards and one touchdown on 32 carries for UAB (4-3, 2-2).

The teams combined for 101 rushing attempts.
