Former KC manager Hillman joins Astros’ staff

SEATTLE (AP) — Former Kansas City manager Trey Hillman will be the bench coach for new Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch.

The Astros announced the coach staff Friday. Former Texas Rangers third base coach Gary Pettis will fill the same role with the Astros, and will also oversee baserunning and outfield play.

Dave Hudgens is the new hitting coach, the same job he used to have with the New York Mets. Longtime player, coach and minor league manager Rich Dauer will be first base coach and infield instructor.

The Astros said pitching coach Brent Strom and bullpen coach Craig Bjornson are returning from last year’s staff.
