CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — An acclaimed journalist and author is set to face a grand jury in December on a charge of involuntary manslaughter in a crash that killed a Virginia man.

Donovan James Webster of Charlottesville was initially only charged with driving under the influence stemming from the August crash that killed a 75-year-old Wayne Thomas White of Waynesboro.

The Daily Progress reports (http://bit.ly/1riFhBJ) that 55-year-old Webster waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Albemarle County General District Court Thursday.

Webster is a former senior editor for Outside magazine and has written for The New Yorker, National Geographic and other magazines.

He also has written several books, including “Aftermath: The Remnants of War” and “The Burma Road: The Epic Story of the China-Burma-India Theater in World War II.”
