Needing a spark, Redskins change practice routine

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden is trying to “give a little freshness” to his 1-5 team by changing some practice and meeting times.

The Redskins went directly from the walk-through session to the main practice without a long break in between on Thursday, just one of the new wrinkles in the daily schedule.

Said linebacker Brian Orakpo: “You’ve got to switch it up. I understand where he’s coming from. You can’t keep being stagnant with doing the same things.”

Still, coaches and players realize that a different routine will only do so much to reverse the team’s fortunes.

Said defensive coordinator Jim Haslett: “It still boils down to guys have to make plays, and we’ve got to put them in positions to make plays.”
