Baltimore mayor to announce heroin task force

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is announcing a task force to examine the extent of heroin and substance abuse problems in the city.

She will be joined Wednesday by city officials to announce appointments to the task force.

Officials also are scheduled to talk about ways to improve outpatient treatment.

The task force also will explore how to better engage the community and promote positive interactions in neighborhoods where treatment programs operate.

The task force will report back to city officials with recommendations for strengthening treatment, improving access to treatment and reducing substance use.
