Montgomery Co. police use helicopter in search for 2

WASHINGTON — Two people led the Montgomery County police on a chase Tuesday evening that saw them driving on a trail in Rock Creek Park before running away.

The police used a helicopter and dogs to track down two people who they say they saw attempting a drug deal and assaulted an officer at about 7:30 p.m. ABC7’s Tom Roussey tells WTOP, “They tried to pull the guys over … they didn’t pull over.”

County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks says police followed a car from Longmead Crossing Drive, in Silver Spring, about 3 1/2 miles to the end of Oriental Street, in Rockville. Roussey says the street dead-ends at Rock Creek Park, but the pair in the car drove into the park, going about a quarter-mile down a trail used by walkers and bicyclists before their way was blocked by a tree. They then ditched the car and ran off; it appears they got away, Roussey says.

There’s no available description of the driver or passenger. Police are telling residents in the area to be on the lookout for any unusual activity.

No one was hurt.
