Donovan surrounded by young lineup for US finale

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Landon Donovan was surrounded by a youthful lineup for his U.S. national team finale against Ecuador on Friday night, with DeAndre Yedlin and Greg Garza given their first international starts.

Donovan, who is retiring following the Major League Soccer season, made his 157th international appearance and was paired at forward with Jozy Altidore in a 4-4-2 formation by coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Brad Guzan was in goal, with Timmy Chandler at right back, Michael Orozco and John Brooks in central defense and Garza at left back.

Alejandro Bedoya and Mix Diskerud were in central midfield, with Joe Gyau on the left in his second start and Yedlin on the right. Gyau and Garza made their national team debuts in last month’s 1-0 win at the Czech Republic.
